BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ASSISTANT

 

Job Description

 

The Behavioral Health Assistant is an extremely important position which shows compassion and respect for consumers. This position is primarily responsible for the safety of the consumers by screening and monitoring consumers in withdrawal. Behavioral Health Assistant also provides therapeutic services to assist consumers with coping skills for a healthy lifestyle.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Adhere to Agency Policies and Procedures and Code of Ethics. Maintain confidentiality for consumers and staff at all times.
  2. Orient consumers to the facility and the Consumer manual.
  3. 3.Provide or arrange transportation for emergency medical care if necessary and inform the Program Director.
  4. Report to the Program Director all infractions of the rules or incidents on appropriate forms.
  5. Observe and record consumers’ self-administration of medication(s) if applicable.
  6. Facilitate educational activities. The use of audio/video equipment and literature may be necessary.
  7. Assist in recreational activities as scheduled or as indicated by residents’ needs/activity levels per Program Director.
8.Prepare residents’ meals in the absence of the cook.
  1. Supervise completion of residents’ chores and assist in ensuring maintenance of a clean and safe residential environment.
  2. Answer phone calls as appropriate.
  3. Issue write-ups when consumers have infractions of rules.
  4. Complete contact sheets for residential and outpatient waitlist.
  5. Intervene in crisis situations and/or de-escalate potentially disruptive situations promptly. Notify On-Call staff or Program Director.
  6. Be willing to work flexible hours.

15.Be on time for all shifts.

  1. Attend mandatory staff meetings and agency trainings as scheduled.
  2. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISED BY:

 

Program Director will provide primary supervision with the Director of Nursing having responsibility for medical issues. In the absence of either of these, the Chief Operating Officer will assume the supervisory function.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

This employee must have good verbal and written communication skills. High School Diploma or GED is required. Some college and/or work experience preferred. Must obtain and maintain valid Driver’s License and auto insurance. Must have good prioritization skills and be able to multi-task while maintaining a therapeutic environment.
